History

The VViN was founded in 1994 under the name Association of Translation Agencies (ATA). In 2012 ATA changed its name to VViN. The reason for this was that the abbreviation ATA was sometimes mistaken for the American Translators Association and furthermore, ATA did not refer to the organisation's Dutch origins, whereas VViN does.

Nowadays most large translation agencies in the Netherlands and a large number of middle-sized and small agencies are affiliated to the VViN.

VViN also took the initiative to set up the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC), of which it is currently an active and influential member.
